Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership

 

The University of Cincinnati Educational Leadership Program seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in Educational Leadership focused on K-12 urban education and/or educational equity. The successful faculty member’s scholarship will address K-12 leadership and policy issues. Relevant research areas may include, but are not limited to, school leadership and reform, educational equity and access, equal educational opportunity, the K-16 education pipeline, social justice and the education of underrepresented populations, or other topics that speak directly to the challenges facing American youth and urban education. This faculty member will teach in our thriving principal preparation program – including both a master’s and graduate certificate program – and in the Educational Policy and Higher Education concentration in the Educational Studies Ph.D.

 

This position is being filled as part of the Urban Futures Cluster, a university-wide cluster hiring initiative, the specifics of which are detailed below. The faculty member will participate in a unique collaboration with faculty from four other departments across campus, including urban planning, criminal justice, sociology, and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. As part of the urban cluster, the new Educational Leadership faculty member will receive funding to support an Urban Scholar Graduate Fellow and Urban Scholar Undergraduate Research Assistant, both funded through the university. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining an active, rigorous regional and/or national research agenda related to urban leadership and/or educational equity, and securing external funds in support of that agenda.
  • Teaching face-to-face and online courses within the Educational Leadership program, including master’s and doctoral level courses aimed at preparing scholar practitioners for diverse settings
  • Advising students in the principal licensure program and the Educational Policy and Higher Education concentration in the Educational Studies PhD program; supervising research and work experiences of the Urban Scholar Graduate Fellow and Urban Scholar Undergraduate Research Assistant in support of your research agenda.
  • Supporting the Educational Leadership program in program growth and expansion through service to the department (e.g., attending departmental meetings and taking leadership opportunities to grow the program as desired), and working with colleagues on program, school, and college service activities.
  • Displaying a collaborative spirit and a desire to work with fellow faculty members, other academic programs, local community agencies, and local, state, and national educational and professional organizations and associations.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to educational equity and a desire to support the mission of a large, urban, research-intensive institution.

 

Minimum qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Education Policy, or a related field, or completion of the doctoral degree prior to employment.
  • Evidence of a developed and focused program of research and scholarly activity focused on K-12 educational leadership and/or educational equity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of successful university teaching experience – particularly at the master’s and doctoral level and potential to advise master’s students and support doctoral student research.
  • Prior professional experience as a teacher or leader in K-12 public schools, or extensive professional partnerships with K-12 schools that demonstrate deep understanding of K-12 education.
