About the School of Information Technology

The School of Information Technology is a national leader in studying solutions and needs that connect people, information, and the technology of the time. The SoIT (School of Information Technology) is home to Ohio's first Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Information Technology. In addition, it is home to Ohio's first ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity. The SoIT has been growing at 20% annually and currently serves more than 2300 students with 31 full-time faculty members, 28 full-time staff, and 43 adjunct faculty. The SoIT is home to several centers including an NSA/DHS Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, the Information Technology Solutions Center, the Ohio Cyber Range Institute, Applied Machine Learning and Intelligence Center, and the Smart Synergies Lab.

Job Overview

The School of Information Technology seeks to hire an Assistant Director, Academic – IT Learning Center to support student success and retention. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Success, the Assistant Director, Academic – IT Learning Center is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the IT Learning Center, and working with the Associate Director of Student Success, to ensure all Teaching Assistants are meeting the expectations, policies, and standards of the center. The Assistant Director will contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic vision and goals of the IT Learning Center, program planning, policy formation, outcomes assessment and annual reporting with the School of Information Technology (SoIT).

 

The Assistant Director, Academic – IT Learning Center is expected to maintain the highest level of professional competency and to contribute to the success of the School’s strategic plan (https://cech.uc.edu/schools/it/about-us/strategicplan.html), while assisting with other duties in the School and attending SoIT and University events as needed. Essential Functions

  • Assists in coordinating the daily operations of the IT Learning Center including recruiting, hiring, training, observing, evaluating, and supervising the Teaching Assistants (TA) and Student Coordinators.
  • Collaborates with the Student Success Team and Academic Advising to assess the needs of at-risk students and develops action plans to support these students with help from the IT Learning Center.
  • Creates IT Learning Center resources and workshops related to academic support and success for TAs and Student Coordinators
  • Conducts meetings with the TAs and Student Coordinators to ensure they are aware of important information and to promptly address support challenges that arise.
  • Collaborates with the SoIT Marketing Coordinator to advertise and promote the IT Learning Center services and educate the SoIT student population regarding the resources available through the Center.
  • Utilizes all related technology resources employed by the School of Information Technology and the University of Cincinnati including Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas, and Catalyst.
  • Designs and implements evaluation tools to assess the IT Learning Center’s usage and student benefits; prepare reports and statistics documenting program usage.
  • Serves as a referral source for students, faculty and staff in matters related to IT Learning Center.
  • Serves on various committees and working groups related to student success and retention within the School of Information Technology and CECH.  
  • Participates in and represents at CECH or SoIT events such as Recruitment Events, Orientation, College Day, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems and recommends solutions related to mandated student success services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience

  • Minimum of three years of full-time professional experience in higher education with a focus on academic support.
  • Experience in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite or appropriate alternative software to create documents, files, reports, presentations and surveys.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop programs that specifically address a broad range of student success objectives.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
  • Ability to problem-solve and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects within specified time frames.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Supervisory, program assessment, and student success programs experience preferred.
  • Experience working directly in the areas of tutoring, supplemental instruction, and academic coaching

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
