As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Family & Community Medicine has played a leading role in fellow, resident, and medical student education since 1974 and continues to focus on improving the health of members of our Cincinnati community and beyond, with a special focus on medically underserved patients. With faculty expertise in areas such as primary care research, palliative care, geriatrics, global health and integrative medicine, the department is advancing the college's commitment to cultivating learning environments, fostering research and scholarship, and providing innovative patient care. 

 

The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting for the Division Director of the Division of Urban, Underserved and Global Health. The director will lead the division in fulfilling it's mission: “To inspire and train family physicians to lead and serve in healthcare for vulnerable populations in Cincinnati and around the world.” This position would be divided between Divisional leadership, outpatient clinical work, medical education, and research in urban, underserved global health.

 

The ideal candidate would be an Associate or Full Professor in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics with extensive experience in clinical care and leadership in underserved care domestically and in global health work abroad. In addition, the candidate would have experience in curriculum development and completion of scholarly work in the areas of underserved and global health.

 

Faculty rank is commensurate with experience. 

Essential Functions

  •  Develop a five-year strategic plan for the division.
  • Lead philanthropy and grant funding efforts to further grow the division and it's impact.
  • Complete performance reviews of the faculty.
  • Oversee the divisional budget.
  • Partner with community organizations to further the mission of division.
  • Serve as Fellowship Director of the Global Health Fellowship.
  • Provide oversight of domestic and international rotation for UC College of Medicine students and Family Medicine residents.
  • Oversight of the continued development of the Office of Global Health at COM.
  • Serve on the M3/M4 curriculum committee.
  • Serve on the Divisional Advisory Committee for the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
  • Oversee the selection and curriculum for one to two global health fellows.
  • Provide direct patient care services at an assigned clinical site at the Cincinnati Health Department.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical sites.
  • Supervise and teach learners in your clinical settings including our residents.
  • Provide learner feedback, written and verbal.
  • Contribute to a positive learning environment for learners.
  • Give resident lectures as needed.
  • All faculty are expected to contribute to scholarship, including any of the following: curriculum development; research; regional and national presentations; publications; peer review. On average, each core faculty member is anticipated to complete two scholarly activities per year.  

Minimum Requirements

  • MD or DO.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, maintain excellent rapport, and instill confidence with patients, residents, and staff.
  • Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics board certification and licensures.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional development through annual scholarly dissemination efforts (such as presentations or publications).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to working with underserved populations domestically and abroad in current or prior clinical care activities.
