About The Bearcat Bands
The Bearcat Bands are a comprehensive campus band program providing educational opportunities, artistic expression, and leadership development programs to students through music.
Job Overview
The Associate Director Bearcat Bands assists in the preparations of the Bearcat Bands, including Spirit, Concert, and Jazz Bands, as well as additional ensembles and perform administrative operations and functions for the band program and act as the Band Director in his/her absence.
Essential Functions
- Coordination of part-time contracted staff, ordering and maintaining inventories of appropriate equipment, instruments, music, and uniforms.
- Assist the Director of Bearcat Bands in the administration and instruction of the Bearcat Band program.
- Serve as the head of Percussion Studies.
- Rehearse groups as assigned.
- Co-coordinator of marching band show design.
- Contributes to the marketing, print media and social media for Bearcat Bands.
- Conduct and/or monitor band sub-group performances.
- Act as the Band Director in his/her absence.
- Perform musical research, coordinate basketball bands and other administrative tasks.
- Assist the Director in building relationships with internal and external partners to provide student leadership and educational opportunities.
- Attend internal and external meetings and recruit new band members.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree must be in Music, Education or related field.
- Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
Three (3) years of work experience; experience must include directing of a musical organization.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Performing and/or Instructional experience in outdoor and/or indoor competitive pageantry ensembles with emphasis in Percussion.
