About The Department

The University of Cincinnati (UC) Department of Computer Science (CS) (https://ceas.uc.edu/academics/departments/computer-science.html) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) provides a number of core courses to undergraduate and graduate students, including those taken by all first-year computer science and engineering students. The Department of CS offers ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Computer Science. The department also has graduate programs that confer Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Job Overview

The Department of Computer Science is dedicated to educational excellence and developing and sustaining premier research programs with national and international recognition. The Department invites applications for multiple tenured or tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels. The positions are 9-month full-time appointments, paid over 12 months with full University faculty benefits. The salary and rank of the positions will be commensurate with credentials.

 

We seek candidates in areas of computer science and computer engineering including but not limited to those with a research focus in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and expertise in neuromorphic computing, cognitive science, bioinformatics, or closely related fields, as well as candidates with interdisciplinary research that bridges AI with emerging areas in cognition, biology, and computation. Areas of specialization may include but are not limited to: advanced hardware and algorithms for neuromorphic computing; computational cognitive science to model behavior, perception, learning, reasoning, and decision-making; and computational approaches for analyzing and interpreting biological, medical, and disease-related data.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Data Structures, specifically related to Data Science, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, in online and in traditional classroom settings.
  • Participating in service-related activities, such as serving on departmental and/or college committees.
  • Developing an externally funded research program and conducting research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Deep Learning, specifically, in applications with bioinformatics and/or computational biology. Also publishing research results in professional journals and refereed conference proceedings.
  • Contributing (at both the graduate and undergraduate level) to the department’s educational and mentoring mission of preparing students to become high-performing professionals in the workplace.
  • Furthering the strategic goals of the Department, the College, and the University via collegial collaboration and teamwork both within the CS Department and with other CEAS departments, across the University, and with regional industries.
  • Working with the other Faculty in the Department and the Department Head to reach the goals set by the upper administration which include increasing the enrollment of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and increasing the overall level of research funding in the department through collaborative efforts within the university and with other academic, industrial, and government laboratories.
  • Advising graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Participating in curriculum and course development and evaluation for department and/or college.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of appointment, a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
