The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (AEEM) at the University of Cincinnati, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of Space Robotics and Automation.


The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics offers fully ABET-accredited five-year B.S. degree in aerospace engineering with a mandatory coop program and M.S. and PhD degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. In addition, the Department has an Accelerated Engineering Degree (ACCEND) program where highly motivated students can get both B.S and M.S. or B.S. and M.B.A. degrees in five years and a quarter


The primary responsibility of the Assistant Professor will be teaching selected aerospace engineering courses to CEAS undergraduate and/or graduate students at UC, including but not limited to, Spacecraft Design; Astrodynamics; Flight Dynamics and Control; Non-linear Control, Intelligent Robotics (with hands-on experimental projects); Aerospace Autonomous Systems (with hands-on experimental projects). The Assistant Professor will advise PhD and MS/MEng students in dynamics and control areas. He/she will also advise capstone design projects and serve on both College and Departmental Committees including but not limited to Dissertation/Thesis committees for Ph.D. and Master’s level students and curriculum development committees.


Research will be an essential component of the Assistant Professor efforts.  It is expected that the Assistant Professor will serve as Principal or co-Principal Investigator for externally sponsored research projects to develop/expand research and capabilities in the areas of spacecraft dynamics, intelligent robotics, autonomous systems, modeling and simulation. The Assistant Professor is expected to work with the Alan B. Shepard Chair by participation in the development of the Robotics and Intelligent Autonomous Systems (RIAS) program and lab infrastructure for space exploration. As part of the research responsibilities in this position, the Assistant Professor will also serve as an author and reviewer (or journal editorial board member) of related technical papers and reports.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned Doctoral Degree in the field of aerospace engineering or a closely related field, prior to the effective date of the appointment. Candidates must also have at least two (2) academic years of experience of teaching courses, with full course responsibility, primarily in the areas of Spacecraft Flight Dynamics, Astrodynamics, and Nonlinear Control.  In addition, candidates should have more than five year’s academic research background in experimental robotics and autonomous systems.
