The University of Cincinnati (UC), College of Engineering and Applied Science, Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics invites candidates to apply for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of fluids and propulsion.


The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics offers fully ABET-accredited five-year B.S. degree in aerospace engineering with a mandatory coop program and M.S. and PhD degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. In addition, the Department has an Accelerated Engineering Degree (ACCEND) program where highly motivated students can get both B.S and M.S. or B.S. and M.B.A. degrees in five years and a quarter.

The successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses specific to their specialty area online and/or in a traditional classroom setting, participate in service related activities, develop an externally funded research program in the applicable engineering field of expertise, advise graduate and undergraduate students, and publish research results in professional journals. In addition, the successful candidate may participate in curriculum and course development.  Duties also include teaching courses in Aerospace Engineering.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:    Candidates must have a Doctoral Degree in the field of Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field. Prior research experience in the areas of aeroacoustics, gas dynamics and propulsion. Knowledge and a demonstrated ability to use advanced experimental techniques is also a requirement. 


The primary responsibility of the Assistant Professor will be teaching selected aerospace engineering courses to CEAS undergraduate and/or graduate students at UC, including but not limited to, a Senior Capstone Project course, Aerodynamics, Thermodynamics and Energy Systems, and Modeling and new graduate courses to expand the course offerings of the department. As part of the teaching responsibilities, the Assistant Professor will be expected to review and improve upon legacy lecture material, contribute to curriculum development, deliver lectures, and provide timely grading of materials and assistance to students through regular office hours. The Assistant Professor will also serve on both College and Departmental Committees. The primary committees will be the Dissertation/Thesis committees for Ph.D. and Master’s level students. It is expected that the Assistant Professor will also participate in one or more College-level committees, such as ASSET (Advancing Student Success in Engineering and Technology) or D&I (Diversity and Inclusion).  The Department Head will also assign appointments on various Departmental committees such as Advising, Graduate, New Faculty Searches and others, as deemed necessary. To further the student enrichment experience within the Department, the Assistant Professor will also be expected to participate in talks and tours of the College and Research Laboratories for prospective undergraduate students and parents, as well as be involved in College Undergraduate Open House events.


Research will also be an extremely important component of the Assistant Professor’s efforts within AEEM.  It is expected that the Assistant Professor will serve as Principal (and co-Principal) Investigator for research projects to develop/expand research and capabilities in the areas of fluids, propulsion, modeling and simulation.  As part of the research responsibilities in this position, the Assistant Professor will also serve as an author and reviewer of related technical papers and reports.
