About the Department

Based on the Carnegie Foundation Classification System, The University of Cincinnati ( is a Doctoral Granting Research University with very high research activity (RU/VH). Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, it is part of Ohio’s higher education system with approximately 48,000 students in attendance. The Counseling Program is situated within the School of Human Services in the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services. The School also includes undergraduate and graduate programs in Behavior Analysis, School Psychology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion and Education, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Sport Administration. The School is a leader in online course and program development, and there are many active collaborative activities across programs and with community partners. The Counseling Program offers B.S., M.A., M.Ed., and Ph.D. degrees. The Graduate Programs are CACREP-accredited.

Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor Educator of School Counseling, a 9-month non-tenure-track position. The successful applicant will be expected to further the Program and University's excellence in community collaboration, experiential student training, and teaching.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include:

  • Program service and teaching of graduate coursework in school counseling and the counseling core (e.g., ethics, theories, etc.).
  • Supervising field experiences aligned with the Program's ecological model, wellness-oriented approach to practice.
  • Advising graduate students (up to 12 per year).
  • Serving on thesis committees.
  • Collaborating with area schools as the Field Placement Coordinator. 


Additional service responsibilities include:

  • Leadership and program development within School Counseling.
  • Collaborating with other programs. 
  • Serving on Program, School, College and University committees. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Earned Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision (or anticipated completion by August, 2024) from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Potential to maintain and grow field placement partnerships consistent with a wellness oriented perspective, demonstrated by service on professional committees or experience teaching practicum/ internship.
  • Experience teaching at least one graduate course in the counseling core and/or courses within the school counseling specialty as evidenced through your CV, recommendations, and/or teaching evaluations (optional).
  • Eligible for or currently hold licensure or certification as a school counselor as described in your cover letter, CV, and/or recommendations.
  • Professional work experience implementing evidenced-based school counseling programs, demonstrating familiarity with the ASCA model as evident in your CV and/or recommendations.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in teaching, supervision, and clinical practice as described in your cover letter and your approach to teaching and supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively use technology when teaching online and/or in-person as described in your CV and cover letter.
