Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (MPCS) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Physics, intended to begin August 15, 2026.
Expectations for this position include consistently delivering effective teaching, incorporating pedagogical strategies to improve student learning, and contributing to the advancement of teaching through professional activities.
The Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science (MPCS) has 31 full-time faculty members, including six teaching physics. We value excellent teaching and personalized student support to help students achieve their goals, whether the goal is to enter a career or to continue their education.
Essential Functions
- Teach physics courses as assigned by the academic unit head. These courses may include but not be limited to Concepts in Physics, Introductory Physics, Algebra-based General Physics, Calculus based College Physics, Introductory Astronomy, Sustainable Energy and associated labs. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Instructors are required to teach in-person classes, which may include evening courses. Some classes may also be offered with online, hybrid or hyflex options. Class sizes normally range from 15-30 students.
- Use the university course management system (Canvas) and other relevant classroom technologies.
- Hold regular office hours to meet with students.
- Engage in physics and/or physics education research and other professional activities, which may include but are not limited to attending workshops/seminars/conferences, presenting at workshops/seminars/conferences, and publishing articles in regional, national and international peer reviewed journals.
- Participate in service such as committee service, academic advising, and other activities that enhance the mission of the Department, College, University and/or contribute to Community Service.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of the appointment, both of the following are required:
- Master's degree in Physics, Physics Education, or related field.
- One (1) academic year of teaching experience in physics at the College/University level, which could have been as a teaching assistant, adjunct, or full-time faculty.
