The Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and Microbiology is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

The Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology was originally created with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine as the Department of Biochemistry in 1918. The department has thrived throughout the years and in 1989 was merged with the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology to form the current department. The department has generated a new strategic plan with three pillars of research: 1) Structural biology and biochemistry, 2) Microbiology, virology and Immunology, and 3) Cellular signaling, regenerative biology and neuroscience. There is overlap between these pillars amongst department faculty which creates an exciting and innovative environment for one to conduct research.

The Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and Microbiology invites structural biologists with expertise in Cryo-EM to apply for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate rank as part of the University’s investment in a state-of-the-art Cryo-EM Facility. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience.

We cultivate a supportive environment in the department and college that provides career and scientific mentoring. The College supports several opportunities for internal grant awards, grant pre-review, recognition of research excellence, and social and scientific forums over the academic year. The new recruit will join an existing core of structural biologists and be expected to secure extramural funds to maintain a vibrant and innovative research program using Cryo-EM methodology. We seek candidates who will address fundamental basic science questions at the molecular level as they relate to human health and will synergize with current faculty and the Department’s three pillars of research. College investment in core infrastructure provides the faculty with a variety of up-to-date core facilities with access to instrumentation and technical expertise to enrich their programs.

Essential Functions

Duties will include responsibilities for the research and teaching activities for our graduate students, undergraduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Will serve on departmental and College committees.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field and have at least two years of relevant postdoctoral experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Individuals with research programs focused on the departments research pillars of structural biology and biochemistry, microbiology/virology & immunology, cellular signaling, cancer, regenerative biology and neuroscience are encouraged to apply.
