Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), a nationally prominent comprehensive college for the performing and media arts, seeks an experienced composer and teacher for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in film and media scoring, intended to begin August 15, 2026. Initial appointment is three (3) years, after which the faculty member is eligible for reappointment.

About the Department

The Commercial Music Department (CMP) in CCM is comprised of approximately 40 students in the Bachelors of Music (BM) program, and served by 13 full-time and adjunct faculty and staff. The courses in the CMP program enable students to achieve professional results in Composition and Audio Production, including mixing and mastering. Additionally, CCM houses a Media Production Division (MPRO) with approximately 250 students pursuing tracks in Film and Television Production, Multimedia, Sports Media, Audio Production, and Broadcast News. This position will help to develop and teach courses and programs in film and media scoring for CMP students while also overseeing and advising scoring work that can support projects in MPRO.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and teach courses and programs in Film and Media Scoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels. These courses could include but are not limited to areas such as Game and Interactive Media Scoring, Film and Media Scoring, Music Production and Technology, Film Scoring Orchestration, and/or other areas in the candidate’s expertise.
  • Teach applied composition lessons in Film and Media Composition.
  • Oversee and advise student scoring work that can support projects in MPRO.
  • Support the department in coordination on equipment and technology, inventory maintenance, purchasing, curriculum development, student advising, and season planning.
  • Recruit and retain students of exceptional promise.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students on capstone projects.
  • Maintain regional, national, and international visibility through creative and professional work, published research, and/or professional lectures and presentations.
  • Serve the college and university community through activities such as committee membership, academic advising, and mentorship of students

 

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of the appointment, the successful candidate must have all of the following:

 

1. A Master’s degree in Film, Media Scoring or a related field.

2. Two (2) years of experience in either the film scoring industry, the game scoring industry, or a combination of both.  

3. One (1) academic year of teaching experience at the collegiate level. This may be, but is not required to be, earned concurrently with the experience above.
