Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Family & Community Medicine has played a leading role in fellow, resident, and medical student education since 1974 and continues to focus on improving the health of members of our Cincinnati community and beyond, with a special focus on medically underserved patients. With faculty expertise in areas such as primary care research, palliative care, geriatrics, global health and integrative medicine, the department is advancing the college's commitment to cultivating learning environments, fostering research and scholarship, and providing innovative patient care. 


The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) to provide obstetrical and gynecological care in The Christ Hospital-University of Cincinnati Family Medicine Program. The CNM will serve as Core Residency Faculty, focusing their teaching and clinical work on women’s health, including delivery. This individual will provide care at assigned clinical sites including: Family Medicine Clinic, Labor and Delivery, and University Health Services. 

Essential Functions

  • Faculty are expected to supervise and teach learners in multiple clinical settings, including: prenatal visits (both individual and group visits), Labor and Delivery, women's health procedures, and direct patient care in Family Medicine Center.
  • Teach resident conferences as needed. 
  • Participate in faculty development seminars and workshops.
  • Obtain a complete health, family psychosocial, obstetric and gynecologic history and record findings in the medical record.
  • Perform a complete physical examination, with special emphasis on their reproductive system.
  • Order, perform and interpret laboratory tests.
  • Develop and implement plans for: health promotion, preconceptual counseling, health maintenance, disease prevention and treatment modalities consistent with practice protocols.
  • Provide periodic health assessment and physical examination on essentially healthy women.  Provide clinical management of women having minor gynecologic problems
  • Provide assessment, education and management for family planning and Fertility control. 
  • Provide direct care to the client during the intrapartum period. 
  • Specific components of intrapartum care are listed in the Delineation of Privileges on file at The Christ Hospital.
  • Provide health education and counseling, with emphasis on physical and psycho-social dimensions of adolescence, sexuality, childbearing, parenting, climacteric, aging and family life.
  • Deliver care to clients at community sites as determined by the needs of the practice.
  • Advance technical skills as defined in clinical privilege scope of practice.
  • Share on-call responsibilities on the Maternity Care Service.

Minimum Requirements

  • CNM board certification through American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • Ability to obtain OH APRN License.
  • Ability to gain DEA Registration number.
  • Experience in prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and contraceptive care.
