Job Overview
The School of Education invites applicants for an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at the University of Cincinnati, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH). This tenure track position in Elementary Education will begin August 15, 2025.
This search is for one position at the rank of assistant professor for individuals with expertise in Elementary Education programs. The successful candidate will teach in-person and online undergraduate courses in Elementary Education (PreK through grade 5); teach and/or mentor graduate students in Elementary Education or related areas; develop a robust research agenda; establish a strong record of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journals; and contribute to national, program, university, and professional service. Other duties may include supervising students in field placements or assuming program leadership positions. Possibilities exist for working with urban schools and/or the Arlitt Center for Education, Research, and Sustainability. This position cannot sponsor visas and will therefore not consider candidates who will require sponsorship.
Essential Functions
- Attend meetings, participate in governance, prepare materials for teaching.
- Evaluate and develop curriculum for department and/or college.
- Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars.
- Serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
- Serve on college or university committees and participate in curriculum development activities.
- Serve on graduate committees, supervise laboratories (where appropriate), independent study activities, and off-campus learning.
- Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of his or her responsibilities.
- Render service to the professional or lay community which is relevant to the individual’s academic specialty.
- Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
All of the following prior to effective date of appointment:
- An earned doctorate in Elementary Education or related field.
- Evidence of a developed and focused program of research and scholarly activity in early childhood/elementary education, as evidenced by one or more peer reviewed journal articles or book chapters.
- Three years kindergarten through fifth grade teaching experience with children from various ethnic, cultural, ability, and linguistic groups (public or private school).
- At least 1 academic year, which could have been completed consecutively, of university teaching experience. This experience may have been gained as a teacher of record or teaching assistant.

- A cover letter describing the candidate's research agenda, three years of kindergarten through fifth grade inclusive teaching experience with children from diverse ethnic, cultural, ability, and linguistic groups (public or private school), higher education teaching experience (including in-person and online), and service experience.
- Curriculum vitae (including publications and classroom teaching experience).
- Copies of a maximum of three scholarly papers.
- Three letters of reference.
