Job Overview
Responsible for developing and implementing a wide variety of programs ensuring that law students succeed academically, personally, and professionally.
Essential Functions
- Manages the facilitation of law student access to academic, co-curricular, and social activities at the University.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises law school new student orientation, graduation, and award/recognition ceremonies, including student leadership development programs.
- Oversees academic advising for JD, joint-degree, and certificate program students.
- Oversees referrals and resources for academic support, is the primary contact for law student emergencies, and manages the medical leave of absence process for College of Law students.
- Oversees the coordination of disability-related accommodations for the College of Law community.
- Supports the College’s Title IX Compliance.
- Supervises, coordinates, advises, and promotes student organizations, including law student government, assists student organization in establishing appropriate governance structures and in complying with all law school and university requirements.
- Provides support for law student discipline structures. Ensures reporting by structures of character and fitness.
- Serves as an ex officio member on faculty committees as requested.
- Provides mentoring, support, and programming for historically underrepresented groups and first generation college/low income undergraduates and connects them with the resources necessary to thrive in a professional school environment.
- Collaborates with COL leadership team on all questions bearing on the overall climate of the school community, including student concerns relating to diversity, equity, and belonging.
- Collaborates and provides thought partnership to student services team on the best practices and programming to support diversity, equity, and belonging initiatives.
- Develop budget requests and monitor expenditures.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree or Terminal Degree.
Required Experience
- Five - Seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion including experience in a legal setting engaging in equity and inclusion initiatives.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- J.D. strongly ideal.
- Extensive experience in student services and knowledge of best practices in mentoring programs in higher education
- Demonstrated experience in planning and prioritization of projects, programs, and activities, using sound judgment while meeting organizational requirements and maintaining accountability.
- High level of independent judgment, initiative, discretion, collegiality, integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail
- Must understand how individuals' lived experiences impact the needs of multiple constituencies.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
