The University of Cincinnati’s nationally ranked and internationally renowned College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) seeks a dynamic Assistant Dean for Admissions.   The successful candidate will have a record of leadership in collegiate student services, an understanding and appreciation of the arts, and a well-deserved reputation for strategic thought accompanied by bold action.


CCM is a preeminent institution for the performing and media arts, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees to a student body numbering about 1400. The synergy created by housing CCM within a comprehensive public research university gives the college a unique character and defines its mission: to educate and inspire whole artists and scholars to take their places on the world’s stages.


As a key member of the CCM Dean’s Leadership Council, this Assistant Dean is responsible for the strategic development and execution of comprehensive marketing, recruitment, admissions and yield strategies for incoming undergraduate and graduate students.  The Assistant Dean for Admissions works closely with CCM faculty, with the College’s undergraduate and graduate admissions committee, with CCM’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, with CCM’s admissions staff and with the University of Cincinnati’s admissions team.


Responsibilities include:

  • Manage CCM scholarships and endowed funds (which currently total more than $10M)
  • Address the needs of a diverse group of clients:  prospective students and their parents, faculty, staff, donors, et al;
  • Represent CCM on appropriate University-wide committees
  • Act as the primary liaison to appropriate University offices (e.g., Enrollment Services/Financial Aid, Housing, International, etc.);
  • Provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff, including hiring/firing, annual performance evaluations, etc.
  • Manage the admissions office budget
  • Lead and manage CCM’s admissions office in recruiting undergraduate and graduate students:
  1. Work with faculty and with the Dean’s Office to establish annual enrollment targets, and support faculty throughout the recruitment process
  2. Assist in developing admissions marketing and recruitment materials
  3. Coordinate CCM marketing and recruitment activities, including promotional events, high school visits and college fairs, etc.
  4. Organize/plan local, regional and national audition dates, as well as graduate scholarship competitions
  5. Counsel and advise prospective students/parents regarding admissions, financial aid and registration, transfer and transition services, etc.
  6. Collaborate with CCM’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to create and implement effective retention strategies to ensure student success
  7. Monitor policies and practices to ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Deep knowledge and application of best practices in university and conservatory enrollment management
  • A proven track record of building strong relationships with high schools, community colleges and counselors, as well as a track record of high visibility with local, regional and national admissions organizations
  • A penchant for making data-supported decisions
  • Management experience, with an emphasis on professional development of staff members
  • Extensive knowledge of databases and reporting software such as Slate, Cart, Catalyst, Tableau, etc.
  • Creative and innovative strategic planning and problem-solving
  • A high level of collaboration and teamwork
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • An ability to collaborate with a wide cross-section of senior administrators, faculty, alumni, staff and students
  • The ability to respond to common complaints from families, customers, and external communities
  • Effective management of institutional resources


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred, and five (5) years’ experience in collegiate student services
