Job Overview
Provide American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreting services to individuals with disabilities including students, employees, and visitors of the university.Provide ASL/English interpreting services to individuals with disabilities including students, employees, and visitors of the university.
Essential Functions
- Provide effective, accurate, and impartial ASL/English interpreting to the university community, including on-site and virtually, across all UC campuses, as assigned. Provision of service includes necessary preparation such as reviewing relevant materials, meeting with professors or presenters, and assessing logistical arrangements.
- Utilize technologies, including enterprise tools, to provide video remote interpreting (VRI) in academic and non-academic settings.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state mandates regarding accommodation of qualified individuals with disabilities including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct (CPC).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience
- Seven (7) years documented work experience interpreting in a wide range of settings including interpretations from ASL to Spoken English and Spoken English to ASL.
- Documented experience working in interpreting teams.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), National Association of the Deaf (NAD), and/or Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification preferred.
- Graduated from an accredited interpreter education program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture.
- Previous experience as a contract service provider at the University of Cincinnati.
