Term Adjunct, Sociology, College of Arts & Sciences

The Department of Sociology invites applications for an adjunct faculty member to teach courses in the 2024-2025 academic year. We anticipate needing one or two instructors for two undergraduate courses each per semester. This can be a remote position, but we are also open to the possibility of assigning in-person classes if the successful candidate is based locally.

Job Overview

On a part-time, limited basis, the Adjunct Faculty member’s primary academic function is teaching.

 

Essential Functions

  • On a part-time basis, conduct and teach assigned undergraduate-level courses online or in person (mode of instruction depends on the department’s needs).
  • May serve as an academic advisor for students.
  • Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of these responsibilities.
  • Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters or Ph.D. degree in Sociology (in hand).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
  • Experience teaching an online sociology course.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with individuals from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Preferred experience:

  • At least two semesters of online teaching of sociology courses.
  • At least one semester as instructor of record for an Introduction to Sociology course (online or in person).
