About UC Blue Ash

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College seeks a high performing, well-organized individual to tutor students in the sciences located in the Science Learning Lab. This is a part-time position at 80% FTE. UC Blue Ash College is the largest regional college in Ohio offering primarily associate degrees, with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students

Job Overview

The academic tutor will assist students, on an individual or small group basis, with science related coursework questions (for example:  biochemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology). The academic tutor will report to the lab manager. This position requires proficiency in English and the ability to communicate difficult content in understandable language for students.  This individual will have a commitment to the undergraduate learning of a diverse population at an open-access college. The Science Learning Lab serves over 200 students daily.


The academic tutor will have an ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and administrators and a willingness to work irregular hours, including late afternoon and evening hours not to exceed 32 hours per week.

Essential Functions

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring.
  • Guide students who need additional help with designated subject area classwork.
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide supplemental instruction to students seeking assistance.
  • Help students develop study plans and strategies.
  • May evaluate academic progress of students.
  • May compile reports on student performance.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline.

Required Experience

One (1) year of teaching or tutoring related to the specified field(s).

Additional Qualifications Considered

B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry and experience in teaching and/or tutoring general, organic, and biochemistry, including coursework in biology.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
