About the Learning Commons
The Learning Commons provides free centralized academic support for all University of Cincinnati students. We bring together faculty, best practices in teaching and learning, and hundreds of outstanding peer educators to create flexible academic success programming. Each year more than 15,000 students take advantage of Learning Commons programs to build confidence, integrate on campus, and master challenging course content.
Job Overview
The Learning Communities program supports student’s positive transition to college through a variety of peer-led first-year experience courses. As the Academic Services Administrator for the Learning Community Program, this position will provide joint oversight and leadership of the Learning Community Peer Leader and Facilitator Program. The ASA supervises the First-Year Experience Coordinators, upper-class students who supervise Peer Leaders and Peer Facilitators and provide leadership to the program. The ASA works closely with Coordinators to help direct their work mentoring and teaching Peer Leaders, Peer Facilitators, and first-year students enrolled in Learning Communities. The Academic Services Administrator will also have the opportunity to supervise a Learning Communities Graduate Assistant and serve on the FYE Leadership Team. This position will include oversight of the FYE Recognition and Socials team, lead the Early Term Feedback and Observation process, and participate in other Learning Commons initiatives. This is a hybrid work environment.
Essential Functions
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop student staff including student staff coordinators and potentially graduate student workers. Supervision of student staff ranges from approximately 30-70 student employees.
- Oversee administrative aspects of the program including creating schedules, coordinating observations, conducting surveys. etc.
- Develop and assess training for new hires and returning student employees.
- In conjunction with position supervisor, develop program objectives and corresponding program assessment. Collect and monitor program data, track weekly usage, identify problems and solutions, develop clear goals and action steps for program enhancement.
- Review, analyze, and prepare data for reporting and assessment purposes.
- Manage online platforms for services including Learning Management System (LMS), scheduling, video conferencing, and tutoring platforms.
- Participate in Learning Commons departmental projects and initiatives.
- Oversee student staff timekeeping, track and forecast program budgets, and implement program decisions based on budget forecasts.
- Educate, communicate, liaise, and perform outreach about Learning Commons initiatives to relevant departments, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
- May supervise a graduate assistant; May assist with and promote the Learning Commons through New Student Orientation; hold an additional responsibility in any area supporting the Learning Commons, university service committees, etc.; collaborate with faculty and campus partners to create course content.

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
One (1) year of related experience, including experience related to undergraduate or graduate work.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Education related field
- Familiar with first-year experience, learning communities, learning assistance and related curricular initiatives and programs
- Teaching, training and/or group facilitation experience
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
