Job Overview
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire an outstanding academic Director of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) Microbiology Laboratory. Depending upon the background of the individual selected, additional participation in the clinical pathology or molecular pathology service may be considered. Research opportunities are abundant. The capability to provide high quality clinical service, work cooperatively and collegially within a varying environment, and use excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others, are required. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience.
Essential Functions
- Direct microbiology and molecular microbiology section of the UCMC Clinical Laboratory.
- Ensure high-quality microbiology testing and strategic planning for addition of new testing.
- Maintaining laboratory accreditation.
- Provide consultations to faculty in other departments.
- Collaborative planning for capital equipment selection.
- Contribute to pathology resident education, including didactic and small group teaching, conference-based teaching, and service-based teaching on the laboratory's consult service.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Must have the following prior to effective date of appointment:
- Medical degree (M.D. or equivalent).
- Completion of a three-year Clinical Pathology residency program.
- Board-certification or eligibility in Clinical Pathology.
- Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board.
OR
- Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution.
- Certified or eligible to be certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM).
