The Advising Center within the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College (UCBA) invites applications for an Academic Advisor. The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College is one of the largest regional colleges in Ohio and one of the most diverse colleges at the University of Cincinnati.  The college is located on 135 acres in a park-like setting. Job Overview

This position reports to leadership within the UCBA Advising Center and primarily supports UCBA Allied Health and Pre-Health Professions majors by providing student-centered academic advising. Pre-Health Professions consists of several Selective Admissions Health programs (i.e.: Nursing, Radiologic Imaging Technology, and Dental Hygiene). The role of the advisor includes managing a caseload and monitoring degree audits for accuracy and readiness for selective admissions applications or graduation. Other duties include orienting new students, participating in retention efforts, and working with UCBA faculty and staff to maintain consistent academic program information. This position is a full-time staff position.

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with the option of up to 2 remote working days per week upon completion of the training period. Residence must be within the Cincinnati Tri-State area (OH/IN/KY) with reasonable distance to campus to have the ability to report to campus as required. Remote work arrangements are subject to change in accordance with university policies.

Essential Functions

  • Provide academic advising to facilitate students’ successful and timely educational planning and degree completion in alignment with their educational and career goals.  
  • Serve as advisor for a designated caseload of students through proactive outreach, support, and education.
  • Monitor student progress toward selective admissions program eligibility and develop graduation plans in partnership with individual students.
  • Provide information regarding curriculum, policies, procedures, opportunities, and guidelines for academic programs.
  • Evaluate student information and utilize data to facilitate enrollment and registration. Maintain advising records.
  • Facilitate and complete student degree certification.
  • Evaluate student needs and provide appropriate resource referrals.
  • Support students through various educational processes (e.g., orientation, exploration, parallel planning, transfer, transition, and graduation).
  • Provide support for students related to academic alert, probation, and suspension.
  • Identify opportunities for high-performing student engagement and goal attainment.
  • Utilize current advising and student success technologies for outreach to students.
  • Support student needs with sound equity and inclusion practices for student success.
  • Engage ongoing professional development and training to maintain up-to-date knowledge about advising concepts, practices, policies, and technologies.
  • Function as a member of an advising or student success team to ensure the proper workflow and outcomes of the unit. Collaborate with UC advising community colleagues to advance quality advising practice.
  • Attend related meetings and functions.
  • Understand and apply student development theory.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

 

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience

Zero (0) to one (1) year of student service or related experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education, College-Student Personnel, Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • Graduate student service and/or leadership may also be considered.
  • One (1) year or more of student advising services or related experience.
  • Experience with competitive majors or students pursuing selective admissions programs.
