Department Overview

The University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute (UCCI) translates research into practice by conducting research on correctional interventions, developing evidence-informed and evidence-based tools, and providing training and technical assistance to professionals working with justice-involved populations. UCCI is housed in the School of Criminal Justice in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) at the University of Cincinnati (UC).

Job Overview

UCCI is currently recruiting for a highly qualified researcher to contribute to the organization’s research and technical assistance activities at the Senior Research Associate level. Selected candidate will have opportunities to contribute to multiple research projects including outcome studies using experimental and quasi-experimental methodologies, comprehensive process evaluations, validation studies, and technical assistance projects involving data analysis. Likewise, the selected candidate will have an opportunity to lead multiple training and technical assistance projects to a diverse group of corrections and related professionals. Additionally, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to provide supervision and mentorship to other members of the team. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with a requirement of one week per month on campus. The position is funded by a grant for one year. The position may continue if future funding is secured.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate research studies in a particular discipline.
  • Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training and experience.
  • Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data, and assist in judging validity of data.
  • Independently decide how to solve issues/problems and rely upon their own resources to resolve the issue.
  • Contribute to the collective team effort.
  • May establish test controls, criteria, and research standards.
  • May design complex data processing systems to analyze research data.  
  • Accomplish assigned results for project/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
  • Serve as a seasoned level researcher and may act as a mentor to junior-level research staff.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of experience in related field, process or discipline.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • PhD from an accredited institution of higher education in Criminal Justice or related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based practices in corrections.
  • Demonstrated research experience (minimum 5-7 years).
  • Demonstrated data management and analysis experience (R, SPSS, Excel, MPlus, and/or Stata).
  • Demonstrated supervisory/mentorship experience.
  • Experience writing research proposals.
  • Experience providing training.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands/tasks.
  • Ability to regularly travel.
  • Willingness to work inside correctional facilities and directly with offender populations.
