The Department of Pharmacology and Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a Senior Research Assistant. Under general supervision of designated Director of the Norman Lab. The Sr. Research Assistant will provide technical support as well as performing experimental procedures. The Sr. Research Assistant will support the lab in grant writing and submission.


Position Description:

  • Engage in research experiments and assist other laboratory personnel. Actively assist in experiments, which may include, but are not limited to, rodent tissue collection, cell culture, ELISA, affinity testing, and molecular genetics. Assist in publication and communication of results.
  • Maintain laboratories in good working order including but not limited to

    (a) maintenance of satellite animal facilities

    (b) overseeing routine equipment preventative maintenance (PMs)

    (c) coordinating equipment repair

    (d) order supplies and animal requisitions

    (e) maintain records of receipts and payments

    (f) order and track controlled substances

    (g) track and maintain inventory

  • Review notebooks and procedures of trainees and junior lab members: Graduate students, undergraduates and post-doctoral fellows.
  • To lead and oversee the day to day running of the laboratory function and management of staff. Ensure the laboratory is operated safely and in accordance with EH&S regulations and guidance.
  • Assist in training students and other trainees in laboratory procedures.
  • Work through the proposal development process to conceptualize, draft outlines, conduct research and write proposal sections to ensure overall quality, consistency and responsiveness of all elements of technical proposals; ensure the highest quality of writing for all proposal sections prepared by faculty and staff.
  • Opportunities to participate in preparation and writing of manuscripts and presentations at local and national meetings are anticipated.
  • Develop and approve procedures, technical documentation and SOPs.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with academic, professional, clerical staff and with representatives of collaborating laboratories at the University of Cincinnati in addition to outside collaborators in industry and regulatory bodies such as the NIH, FDA, and NIDA.
  • Provide flexibility where required and work occasional shifts to ensure strict deadlines are met.


Minimum QualificationsAcademic degree in related area of research or equivalent combination of education/experience.


Preferred Qualifications:  Master's degree in science related field or Bachelors degree plus 5 years of research or a Master's degree in pharmacology or molecular biology with 2 years of research.


Knowledge/Experience:  Professional that demonstrates understanding of research fundamentals (e.g. testing and evaluating procedures, data validation and interpretation) and knows fundamental concepts of pharmacology, molecular biology, or biochemistry research discipline; demonstrates ability to learn, acquire new skills, work in teams, and work on pieces of projects/studies.


This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
