The University of Cincinnati’s information technology group (IT@UC) is seeking a new team member to join our Quality Assurance (QA) group.  The responsibilities of the group span multiple areas that are critical to producing stable, high quality applications and services.  As a new member within the QA team, you will serve an integral role in supporting an environment that helps to decrease rework, provides high quality to our customers, ensures development teams are providing secure code and prevents developers from pushing minimally tested code out to production prematurely. Specifically the quality assurance team focus their work in the areas listed below:


  • System Testing
  • Integration Testing
  • Regression Testing
  • UAT (User- Acceptance Testing) Functional testing
  • Device testing
  • Browser testing
  • Usability
  • Security scanning & remediation support
  • WCAG2.0 AA Compliance Auditing & Testing
  • Customer Testing and Review Sessions
  • Troubleshooting and customer support


Job Responsibilities:

  • Test system modifications to prepare for implementation.
  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability.
  • Document software defects using a bug tracking system and report defects to software developers and project managers.
  • Identify, analyze, and document problems with program function, output, display, or content.
  • Monitor bug resolution efforts and track successes.
  • Create or maintain repositories of known test defects.
  • Plan test schedules and strategies in accordance with project scope and delivery dates.
  • Participate in product design reviews, providing input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, and potential problems.
  • Review software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance and completeness.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years’ of experience –OR- an Associate’s degree with seven (7) years’ of experience; -OR- nine (9) years’ experience. Master’s degree in related field is a plus.
  • Experience and/or training include advanced level experience. Possesses broad and deep knowledge of own area and related areas and contributes advanced knowledge, skill, and expertise.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of quality assurance testing and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to a range of professional assignments including those which are difficult and complex
  • Ability to independently analyze extensive data, identify discrepancies and inconsistencies and recommend a course of corrective action
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to design, write, test and document efficient testing solutions to meet customer needs
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team–oriented work environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Written, phone, and in person customer service skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative and good judgment
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, as this role requires working with a wide range of customers as well as our development team.
  • Experience conducting security reviews and vulnerability testing Knowledge and experiences conducting Accessibility and standards compliance reviews using modern tools and technologies.
  • Experience using automated tools to conduct security reviews and remediation
  • Experience using automated tools to conduct accessibility reviews, scans and remediation using dynamic and static analysis tools such as Cenzic Hailstorm
  • Experience in programming with one or more of the following languages: .NET, Java, JavaScript
