The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Health & Disease, is looking for a Nurse Practitioner. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.


Primary Purpose: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Arrhythmia clinic will provide support to the physician in a clinic and hospital setting. 


Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for independent clinics, caring for hospitalized Electrophysiology (EP) patients, pre and post procedures and also care for EP consult patients in the hospital setting. These decisions can be made independently but collaboration with the EP MD will be necessary at times.

The patient population that the NP will be responsible for will be those with implanted cardiac devices including pacemakers, I CDs and implantable loop recorders. Titration of antiarrhythmic medications will also be a responsibility of the NP. Pre and post procedural care including coordination of care between the hospital and clinic will also be a responsibility.



  • Hold an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner license preferably with a background in cardiac and electrophysiology nursing.
  • 2 years of experience as a cardiology nurse practitioner is preferred.
  • International Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification within 5 years of employment should be a requirement.


Procedure Obligations:

  • Procedures that should be conducted by the NP are Tilt Table Tests.
  • Within 2 years of starting date the NP should gain experience in performing the following:
    • Linq implants
    • Suturing of incisional sites
    • Gaining venous or arterial access prior to EP procedures.


Education Obligations:

Education of cardiology and electrophysiology fellows in training, residents, nurses and students will be a requirement of the NP as well. The topics of interest will encompass:

  • Interpreting electrocardiograms
  • device interrogations and programming
  • ablation procedures, preoperative and post -operative evaluation
  • arrhythmia management
  • complications management and monitoring
