Job Overview
The Leave of Absence Department within Human Resources provides support on UC's various time off from work policies. Our goal is to convey information to help employees, supervisors, and HR contacts understand the impact, requirements and process for time off work events, and to ensure the university is following best practices, policies, laws and regulations. The Leave of Absence Administrator is responsible for assisting in the administration of leave of absence policies and processes (i.e., medical, non-medical, military, etc.), UCFlex updates, and leave of absence tracking; this includes employee and supervisor counseling on these policies and processes. This position will ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws as well as university policies and collective bargaining agreements.
Essential Functions
- Administer leaves, including determination of leave type, eligibility verification, leave approval, leave duration and integration with applicable laws, UC policies, collective bargaining agreements and workers compensation.
- Provide pre-leave counseling as requested for FMLA, Work Comp and Disability.
- Identify necessary changes in business processes to ensure efficient and accurate workflow and the best utilization of resources and works with HR staff to develop and implement improved processes. Utilize HR systems to update data, prepare reports, conduct audits and analyze data to identify and resolve errors.
- Update UC Flex; prepare reports and conduct audits; analyze system data to identify errors and resolve.
- May assist in administration of employee benefits related to leaves (e.g., Long Term Disability, Life Insurance or premium payment collection).
- Collaborate with supervisor to improve efficiency and quality of service delivery (i.e., enhanced automation, streamline processes, and quality initiatives.).
- Responsible for maintenance and recommendation of updates to leave of absence policies and procedures.
- Must maintain confidentiality with a high level of integrity. Responsible for accurate and timely storage of HR-related documents in accordance with UC’s Records Retention Schedule.

Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
One (1) year of human resources experience
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
