Graduate Assistant – Professional Development


The Graduate School Office is seeking a Graduate Assistant for professional development programming and initiatives. Full-time graduate students with strong project management and communication skills (both written and oral) are welcome to apply. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.


Job duties include

  • Planning, promoting, and running workshops for UC graduate students
  • Managing the Graduate School social media accounts
  • Assist with professional development programming for Yates Fellows and Provost Graduate Fellows
  • Promoting and assisting with Graduate School events, such as the Graduate Student Expo and Donuts & Development
  • Coordinating semesterly Writing Accountability Groups
  • Maintaining the Professional Development section of the Graduate School website (web content management training will be provided)
  • Working with Graduate School staff to develop new professional development programs and events
  • And other duties as assigned by Graduate School staff including some limited office work


The position runs May-August 2019, and the student appointed to this position will be considered for a renewal of the assistantship in the subsequent academic year, providing the student demonstrates satisfactory job performance and continues to meet the eligibility regulations outlined below and in the Graduate Student Handbook. Compensation includes stipend (paid biweekly).

The student appointed to this position may be eligible for the GSHI Award, which offsets in part the cost of the UC Student Health Insurance premium in the Fall and Spring Semesters.  Please note that students ineligible to receive the award for the full appointment period due to the number of earned credit hours based on the university requirements for awards rule will not be considered.
