The Lindner College of Business is at an exciting point on its path to continued preeminence.  The College has an established national reputation for excellence in several academic areas across its undergraduate, graduate, and online programs. The University of Cincinnati is currently accepting applications for a Director of Strategic Communications to share the stories of the college and lead the branding efforts to all key stakeholders.  The Director serves as the chief internal and external marketing and communications officer for the Lindner College of Business’s recruiting and community partnership efforts.

 

This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing a marketing and communications strategy that will support the College’s strategic initiatives as well as enhance the visibility and reputation of the College and reinforce its identity among internal and external constituencies.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for the College which includes targeted marketing and communications programs to establish and enhance the College's brand, extend the College's visibility across key constituents, and support the College's mission and goals
  • Establish priorities, goals, and objectives for the College’s communications, community relations/outreach, and branding campaigns that increase public awareness and support of College programs, services and activities, and enhance the College’s prominence among key internal and external constituent groups
  • Design, develop and implement complex communications initiatives that include a variety of media, i.e. print, online, web, and social media platforms
  • Develop and coordinate College public information and marketing initiatives
  • Oversee all publications and collateral material along with standardization of graphics and identity program. Oversee concept, development, writing & publication of College's magazine
  • Work collaboratively with College departments in regards to specific marketing, publications (web-based, print, e-newsletters) and communication outreach. 
  • Manage budget and personnel, and other resources for the functional areas assigned
  • Keep current on marketing trends, conduct market research and analysis to gather data to enhance development and maintenance of the College’s key messages and reach targeted opportunities
  • Responsible for oversight of College’s website and social media presence. Ensure that design, structure and content effectively represent the College's mission and activities, and are appropriately directed toward the College's various target audiences in a contemporary manner
  • Active in professional marketing and communication communities
  • Assist in development of executive communications, e.g., speeches & articles and partner with internal groups in the planning of certain special events
  • Develop relationships and promote, enhance media visibility of the College’s educational programs, its faculty and research to national and international media, businesses and stakeholders, pitch and place stories and experts, positioning the College in a leadership role in business education. Provide training and support for faculty and staff interacting with media
  • Responsible for identifying and developing internal and external business relationships and opportunities to deliver growth and expansion of Lindner College of Business career placement, business partnerships, degree and non-degree programs, and managing and further developing College / industry partnerships.  This role works closely with the Dean of Business and his executive team as well as collaborates with career development, marketing and foundation personnel within and across the university.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor degree with seven (7) years of experience; -OR- Associate degree with nine (9) years of experience; -OR- eleven (11) years of experience. Degree and experience must be in business administration, marketing or a related field. Experience must include at least three (3) years of supervision.

 

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred, five or more years’ experience in marketing, public relations, strategic communications, and management, working with the business community and/or professional organizations
  • Expertise in effectively managing personnel and budgets
  • Experience and understanding of digital and print marketing and communications strategy and implementation, marketing research, and media planning
  • Passion for higher education and an understanding of the multi-faceted impact of business education
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize projects at a large, complex university, and complete tasks on time
  • Assertiveness with grace in pursuing strategies with the media
  • Ability to articulate goals, strategies, tactics, and benchmarks to the media
  • Ability to collaborate with high-level academic and administrative leadership and senior departmental staff to identify communications needs and to conceive and execute programs and services to meet such needs.
  • An individual with a broad and deep community network
  • Exceptional interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to understand and embrace the mission of a major research and teaching business College and its ancillary public service mission
  • Comprehensive knowledge of desktop publishing, computer systems, software, e-mail, internet and social media
  • Familiarity with the design and implementation of brochures, magazines, and print media
  • Spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship in executing communication functions and in creating excitement around Lindner College of Business and its programs
  • Skill and ease of comfort networking with other professionals in the marketing and communication field.
