GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position is a member of the Content Services Team, which is focused on innovative ways of performing functions, managing access, and providing services for collections.  This position will be heavily focused on creating and implementing new technologies for library collections workflows, bibliographic data analysis, and access. This position engages in record data management and workflow automation for managing access to content for UCL collections in all formats and disciplines.  The successful candidate will provide analysis, development, and leadership for automated solutions for managing library collections access, which includes digital, electronic, streaming media, and analog resources.


RELATIONSHIP AND AUTHORITY: Reports to Head, Content Services Team.  Work in close collaboration with the Head of Collection Development, eResources and metadata librarians and staff,  library business office, and collection liaisons.



  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automated workflows that ensure that access to collection resources are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Automate processes such as quality control of metadata for access and discovery; write and run queries for error detection in records; automate cleaning and standardization of data in various formats.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure for automated deployment, maintenance, and backup of systems supporting workflow automation; test software and library updates on existing applications.
  • Develop and oversee efficient practices for the ingest/batch update/overlay of records to provide access.
  • Provide technical expertise in adapting and implementing technologies within the libraries and as a member of the OhioLINK consortium.
  • Provide reports on collection management activities including workload and workflow analysis, fiscal impacts, qualitative measures of access, and efficiency of variant access paths.
  • Participate in procurement of collection resources in all formats and all disciplines with a focus on automation and systems development.
  • Maintain records for collections in compliance with university auditor’s requirements.
  • Cross-train staff, document procedures, and establish business continuity for collection management operations.



  • Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with seven (7) years of experience; -Or- nine (9) years of experience. Degree must be in business administration or related field.




  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree in computer/library/information science or other relevant field technology, information/computer science, data science, or related field.
  • Experience with a scripting language such as Ruby or Python and a query language such as SQL.
  • Experience gathering, manipulating and analyzing data in for reporting, analysis, and system development.
  • Knowledge of library standards such as metadata schemes, linked data, RDF, and BibFrame.
  • Demonstrated ability in complex problem solving and decision making such as analysis needed to achieve collection management tasks and goals.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with library related workflows in technical services areas.
  • Experience utilizing data analysis and computation tools and visualization methods to create dashboards, infographics, etc.
  • Experience with access solutions such as discovery layer technology, data mining, and semantic web developments.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in data management for scholarly communication.
