Business Core Systems (BCS) is looking for a full-time Business Systems Analyst (BSA) for the Academic Advisement (AA) module and Credit Evaluation.  Reporting to the director of Catalyst application services team, this business systems analyst serves as the technical liaison for the Academic Advisement module of our PeopleSoft Campus Solutions application and works with a team of talented, highly-skilled BSAs who support other functional modules of the system. The AA BSA primarily supports UC’s Office of Advising and Academic Services, which oversees the following units: Catalyst Advising and Assessment, Center for Pathways Advising & Student Success, College Credit Plus, Pre-Professional Advising Center, New Student Orientation, and Credit Evaluation Center. Additionally, this role provides support to other college departments that support involved in student academic advising and transfer student processing.

 

Characteristic Duties:

  • Serve as the functional lead for the Academic Advisement (AA) module
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide support for all transfer student and advising processes, which includes credit evaluation (transfer, test, and other credit), degree audit, and academic advising.
  • Assist with the set-up of degree audit requirements groups, requirements, and course lists and other required entities to run the associated processes accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborates with business partners with one or more business process to align technology solutions with business strategies
  • Supports one or more moderately complex business processes
  • Establishes and maintains liaison relationship with business partners and BCS in order to provide effective technical solutions
  • Conducts data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements
  • May contribute to the business short and long-term planning sessions and provides direction to ensure understanding of business goals
  • Provides relevant feedback and input from both a business-related and IT perspective
  • Assesses client needs utilizing a structured requirements gathering process to assist in identifying business priorities and may provide viable business solutions to the client
  • Develops, writes, and communicates business requirements and functional specifications for the implementation of business solutions
  • May analyze client operations to understand their particular business objectives and determine opportunities for improvement
  • Documents current business processes and models and may assist in the business process redesign; provides assistance with business case development (i.e., research and data collection)
  • Reviews modules for quality assurance and adheres to standards and procedures
  • Develops and execute user test cases and validates test results during testing
  • Investigates and troubleshoots client and user issues, identifies need for technical assistance, and escalates as appropriate
  • May troubleshoot existing information systems to identify errors or deficiencies and develops solutions
  • Performs on-going routine application maintenance tasks
  • Keeps clients informed of problems, issues, and resolutions and help to manage client expectations
  • Analyzes performance metrics to ensure client satisfaction
  • May work with external vendors and/or consultants to resolve issues and develop solutions
  • Lead and manage technical issues with AA 3rd party system integrations
  • Maintain documentation on appropriate module processes and customizations for users that includes relevant testing activities/scenarios/results.
  • Assists in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems
  • Coaches, mentors, and transfers knowledge to less experienced team members

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or other related field with 3 years of technical or business related experience – OR – Associate’s degree in a related field with 5 years of technical or business related experience –OR – 7 years relevant technical or business related work experience

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of business operations and systems requirements processes
  • Effective customer service and presentation skills; excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate technology concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Must be self-motivated, results-driven and one who takes initiative to proactively problem-solve business process issues and complete work tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of academic advising and transfer student processing in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Experience using advising tools such as Starfish (academic advising scheduling and early alert tool) and the academic planner tools
  • Ability to write and maintain PeopleSoft queries used to execute module processes
  • Higher Education experience and particularly experience working in student administrative services
