We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a drive to work with and develop students and staff to apply for the live on-campus Area Coordinator at the University of Cincinnati. We will be hiring up to two (2) Area Coordinators from this posting.

 

Area Coordinator

The Division of Student Affairs, Resident Education & Development is seeking to hire up to four Area Coordinators.  As a member of the Resident Education & Development (RED) Management Team, the Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for the management, administration, services and activities in a residential neighborhood.  The Area Coordinator assists with the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of non-exempt and/or exempt staff.  Other duties include community development, student development, housing assignments, staff development, student conduct, crisis intervention, programming, government advisement and summer programs.  This is a required live on-campus position that includes the expectation of eating in our Dining Centers to provide policy enforcement within the dining facilities and to promote community development for staff and students.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Provides direct supervision to non-exempt and exempt departmental staff; provides indirect supervision to resident advisors, and desk staff, in the assigned residential neighborhood.
  • Responsible for the administrative duties of assigned residential areas. Oversees office operation, neighborhood programming budget, completes necessary paperwork, and works with Facilities & Maintenance staff, Housekeeping staff, Housing and Food Services, and University of Cincinnati Police Department to ensure safety and security within the designated area.
  • Works to ensure that all residents feel included and welcome by overseeing community, academic, and personal programs in collaboration with other Resident Education and Development staff and/or university departments.
  • Is knowledgeable of departmental and university policies and ensures that students and staff with whom he/she/they interacts are aware of such policies within all residential communities and residential dining centers.
  • Provides guidance and support to the advisors of hall government. Monitors and approves financial transactions to ensure funds are used properly
  • Facilitates an awareness and sensitivity in celebration of cultural diversity.
  •  Assists in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of all Resident Education and Development staff members.
  •  Serves as the neighborhood’s primary conduct officer, adjudicating cases and working in conjunction with the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. May assign relevant cases to other departmental staff, where they see fit.
  •  Serves in campus-wide on-call duty rotation, providing crisis intervention as situations arise. Utilizes on-campus resources to make appropriate referrals to students who need and/or require assistance.
  •  Establishes regular office hours within residential neighborhood. Maintains a high level of contact with residents and staff by walking the area on a regular basis.
  •  Actively participates in the Resident Education and Development strategic planning    process, as a member of the RED Management Team.
  •  Serves as chair of a departmental committee; may serve on division or university committees as a representative of Resident Education & Development as needed.
  •  Attends regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings, individual consultations with supervisor/supervisees and facilitates area meetings.
  •  Assists with Summer Conference Program operation.
  •  Perform related duties based on departmental need.

 

Minimum Qualifications:   Master degree and two to four (2-4) years of post-Master’s residence life or equivalent functional area experience. Experience must be in College Student Affairs, Higher Ed Administration, or related area. Required to live on-campus.

 

Preferred qualifications: Two years post masters working in university housing and/or residence life. Supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate staff. Experience adjudicating student conduct. 

 

Recruitment Timeline:  Review of applications will begin January 2019 and will continue until position is filled.
