Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Pathways Advising, advise current and prospective transfer, transition, and non-matriculated students on how to meet educational goals and refer to necessary college and support services.

  • Provide university-wide academic advising and referral solutions focused especially on student goal attainment and student completion of college courses and degrees.  This may be in walk-in, phone, in-person appointment or group advising settings.
  • Develop expertise of UC culture, structure, university and college admissions requirements, resources and recommended academic plans for the purpose of providing exceptional and accurate advising and referral solutions.
  • Become proficient with advising technologies such as PeopleSoft/Catalyst, Starfish Retention Solutions, degree audit, etc.
  • Provide support and leadership of various projects and program development targeting special student populations, (transfer, transition, non-matriculated, etc).
  • Support programmatic efforts related to student success and retention strategies, adviser training and development.
  • Provide centralized support and targeted outreach to students with Early Alert notifications.
  • Work with regional 2-year colleges to support student transfer or transition to the Clifton campus, as needed.
  • Mentor and train transfer ambassadors to help with office programs
  • Be flexible and solution-focused in helping to shape this new and developing advising center
  • Utilize a student-centered lens and approach in decision-making and a high level of service orientation with all constituencies.
  • Actively participate as a constructive, outcomes-oriented member of the team. 
  • Prioritize projects and manage time as aligned with the critical priorities of the job.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with respectful, inclusive, and supportive interactions.
  • Contribute positively to healthy team dynamics with peers and colleagues. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree and one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate's degree and three (3) years’ experience; -OR- five (5) years’ experience; experience must be in advising high school and/or college students or related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have experience in advising and mentoring college students; knowledge of and experience working with student development theory; strong analytical, organizational, and student service skills; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and departments throughout the University. Strong group presentation skills. Prior experience with PeopleSoft degree audit systems and proficiency with technology, including Starfish Connect, are preferred skills.
