Academic Advisors will assist our graduate students enrolled in MSN, DNP, and PhD programs, on campus and in our distance learning programs, to achieve their goals of becoming advanced practice nurses and researchers. As a member of an advising team in which students are placed at the center of all that we do, Advisors work collaboratively with faculty and staff to identify and address the issues that graduate students face while pursuing an advanced degree.


Advisors work in tandem with the Program Coordinator/Director to determine an academic plan and map progress toward the completion of an advanced degree in the College of Nursing. Advisors are responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of academic and non-academic programming for graduate students on campus and online, focusing on overall student success and satisfaction. Other responsibilities includes:


  • Early intervention - advising of students experiencing difficulty
  • Maintaining student records, including the transfer of credits, transition to other specialties, registration, advising documentation and graduation certification
  • Partnering with CoN recruitment team to assist with student marketing and recruitment efforts
  • Active listening and proactive problem solving


Qualified applicants must have a Master’s degree. Ideally applicants will also have:

  • Experience in higher education, with a prior role in academic advising preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare, with experience in nursing or a related health field
  • Effective communication and presentation skills in individual and group settings
  • Strong written communication and editing skills, with prior experience creating annual reports
  • Proficient computer skills, comfortable with a variety of technologies and online systems
  • Comfortable with databases with a wide exposure to computer software, especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to quickly learn other technology as needed, familiar with communicating and marketing via social media
