Job Overview

The Assistant Director of Training and Development provides leadership, oversight, and
administration for the Department of Resident Education and Development (RED). This position is expected to create opportunities for students and professional staff members and serves as the primary resource for staff regarding training and development. Additionally, the Assistant Director provides leadership and support to the Resident Assistant (RA) training and development initiatives through overseeing the departments’ training and development committee. This role requires the ability to take initiative, facilitation, and work collaboratively with others. The Assistant Director in this role will also serve as a liaison between various campus partners. This position reports to the Associate Director for Resident Education and Development.

Essential Functions

  • Lead all departmental training and development for all undergraduate, graduate, and professional staff members.
  • Create and track all professional development completed by staff members
  • Provide oversight and serve as the primary leadership liaison to the department training and development committee
  • Assist the training and development committee in planning and executing Resident Advisor training and regular development sessions throughout the year.
  • Provides supervision to non-exempt/exempt staff (i.e., firing/hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with campus departments regarding training and development
  • Coordinate resources for staff members to grow professionally
  • Assist in creating annual goals for the Resident Education and Development team
  • Serve in after-hours emergency contact rotation with members of the RED Leadership Team
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of departmental initiatives
  • Develop and coordinate assessment strategies for training and development
  • Manage budget responsibilities for training and development initiatives
  • Perform duties based on departmental need

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree must be in College Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration or related field.

Required Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in Student Personnel, Counseling, higher education or residence hall administration or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

N/A

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Leadership, Counseling or related field.
  • Previous experience leading training and development initiatives

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
